Forest Gecko

The New Zealand Forest Gecko (Mokopirirakau granulatus) is a small endemic gecko found in a range of habitats including native forest, scrub, and coastal vegetation. It is well camouflaged, with variable brown and grey tones and finely textured, granular skin. Like many of New Zealand’s geckos, it is mostly nocturnal and spends the day hidden in bark, foliage, rock crevices, or other sheltered places. Forest Geckos are live-bearing rather than egg-laying, giving birth to fully formed young.
