Porrhothele antipodiana
FamilyPorrhothelidae GenusPorrhothele NZ statusEndemic
Porrhothele antipodiana is an endemic New Zealand tunnelweb spider and the most widespread member of its genus. It occurs across both main islands and has also been recorded from the Chatham Islands. Recent genetic research found that its considerable variation in colour and body size represents a single widespread species, rather than multiple geographically separated cryptic species.
