Waitkera waitakerensis

Waitkera waitakerensis is an endemic New Zealand orb weaving spider found in lowland forests of the North Island. It constructs small, generally horizontal orb webs amongst understory vegetation. Waitkera is a monotypic genus, meaning W. waitakerensis is its only recognised species. Northland populations living around shaded rock outcrops can grow noticeably larger than forest dwelling populations elsewhere.
