Pholcus phalangioides is an introduced spider in New Zealand and is now found throughout much of the world, usually living around houses, sheds and other sheltered places. It builds a loose, messy web and, when disturbed, rapidly vibrates through the silk until it becomes almost a blur. It feeds on insects as well as other spiders, sometimes tackling prey considerably larger than itself.
