Agrius convolvuli

Agrius convolvuli, commonly known as the convolvulus hawk moth, kūmara moth or hīhue, is a large migratory hawk moth found naturally across much of the Old World and Pacific. In New Zealand it is an intermittent resident that regularly breeds here, particularly in the North Island. The larvae feed on plants in the bindweed family, including shore bindweed (Calystegia soldanella) and kūmara (Ipomoea batatas). Adults are powerful fliers and hover at flowers while feeding through an exceptionally long proboscis.
