Zealaranea trinotata
Zealaranea trinotata is an endemic New Zealand orb-weaving spider, often found in native forest and other well-vegetated habitats. It is a distinctive species, with individuals often showing pale markings on the abdomen that can vary in strength between specimens.
This species is often encountered at night sitting in its web beneath tree ferns, particularly silver fern. Like other orb-weavers, it builds a circular web to catch flying insects and can be easy to overlook during the day when resting away from the web.
