Bumble bees of New Zealand
Bumble bees are introduced insects in New Zealand, with four species brought here to help pollinate clover and other crops. They are large, robust bees that feed on nectar and pollen, and are now a familiar sight in gardens, farmland, and other open habitats.
In New Zealand, bumble bees are important pollinators of both crops and garden plants. Many species nest underground, and because of their size and long tongues, they are able to pollinate flowers that smaller insects cannot use as easily.
