Frogs of New Zealand
New Zealand has six frog species, three of which are endemic to New Zealand: Archey’s Frog, Hochstetter’s Frog, and Hamilton’s Frog.
New Zealand also has three introduced frog species from Australia: the Whistling Tree Frog, the Southern Bell Frog, and the Green and Golden Bell Frog. We have two introduced species in the genus Ranoidea in New Zealand, and both bell frogs can have mixed effects on local ecosystems, including predation on small endemic fauna in sensitive wetland and forest-edge habitats.
