Trichonephila edulis, Nephilidae
Trichonephila edulis is a large orb-weaving spider from Australia that is only occasionally found in New Zealand. It is best known for its strong golden web and the large size of the female.
This species builds a large, durable orb web between shrubs and trees, which can reflect a beautiful golden color. In New Zealand it appears to be an uncommon visitor rather than an established resident, but it remains one of the more striking orb-weaving spiders likely to be encountered.
