Colaranea viriditas

Colaranea viriditas is an endemic New Zealand orb-weaving spider, often recognised by its bright green abdomen. Its colouring helps it blend in well with leaves and surrounding vegetation, making it surprisingly easy to overlook.

Like other orb-weavers, it builds a circular web to catch flying insects and is usually found in shrubs, gardens, and other vegetated habitats, can often find them around ground ferns. This species is widespread in New Zealand and is one of four distinctive endemic Colaranea orb-weavers.
