Spiders of Australia

Australia is home to one of the richest spider faunas in the world, with over 4,000 described species and many more yet to be scientifically named. Around 95% of these species are found nowhere else on Earth, making Australia a global hotspot for spider endemism. From ancient trapdoor spiders to colourful peacock spiders, Australia’s arachnid diversity is both vast and unique.

Through these galleries, I aim to highlight the extraordinary variety of Australia’s spiders — from their intricate behaviours and striking colours to the essential ecological roles they play. By showcasing this diversity, I hope to inspire a greater appreciation of Australia’s remarkable spider fauna and support awareness of the need to protect their habitats.
