New Zealand Orb-Weaving Spider (Courtaraneus orientalis)

The New Zealand orb-weaving spider, now classified under the new genus Courtaraneus, is one of the largest endemic orb-weaving spiders in New Zealand. This spider can blend into its surroundings by using its coloration and body shape to mimic the vegetation it inhabits.

Courtaraneus orientalis is typically found in scrub and forest margins in both North & south Island. Often building large orb webs, that can span well over 2m.
