Colaranea melanoviridis

Colaranea melanoviridis is an endemic New Zealand orb-weaver, usually recognised by its green colouring and the dark black stripe running down the abdomen. It is most often associated with forest habitats

Like many orb-weavers, this species is mainly active at night and builds a circular web to catch flying insects. Although small, it is a distinctive spider and one of four Colaranea species found only in New Zealand.
