Celaenia atkinsoni

Celaenia atkinsoni is an unusual orb-weaving spider found in New Zealand. Like other bird-dropping spiders, it relies on remarkable camouflage, with its shape and markings helping it resemble bird droppings or debris when resting.

This species is usually found among shrubs and other vegetation, where it can be very difficult to spot. Females are especially distinctive and may also be seen guarding their eggsacs, adding to the unusual appearance of this spider.
