Argiope protensa
Argiope protensa is found in New Zealand and elsewhere in Australasia. It is usually recognised by its slender body and elongated abdomen, which gives it a distinctive tail-like shape.
This species often builds a relatively small web among grasses, shrubs, and other low vegetation. Like many orb-weavers, it relies on camouflage and web placement to avoid attention while waiting for flying insects to become trapped.
