Green and Golden Bell Frog (Ranoidea aurea)

The Green and Golden Bell Frog (Ranoidea aurea) is an introduced species in New Zealand, originally brought here from Australia in the late 1860s. It is mainly found in the upper half of the North Island, where it lives around ponds, wetlands, and other damp habitats.

This species is usually recognised by its bright green colouring, smooth back, and strong association with water. In New Zealand, it often occurs in similar habitats to the Southern Bell Frog, and like that species, it can have an impact on native fauna, such as lizards and other endemic frog species like Archey’s frog.
