Hochstetter’s Frog (Leiopelma hochstetteri)

Hochstetter’s Frog (Leiopelma hochstetteri) is one of New Zealand’s native frogs and is found only in the North Island. It is the most widely distributed of New Zealand’s native frog species and is usually associated with damp native forest and stream habitats.

This species is nocturnal and well camouflaged, with brown and olive tones that help it blend into leaf litter and streamside rocks. Unlike New Zealand’s other native frogs, Hochstetter’s Frog has partly webbed feet, which suits its close association with streams.
